Announcement of Job Opening English Teaching Position

 

 Miyazaki Municipal University invites applications for one English teaching position.

 

1. Position: Adjunct Lecturer

2. Number of positions: 1

3. Scheduled Date of Employment: April 1, 2023

4. Coursework and Duties:
(1)Assigned Coursework:
    ?English I (Reading)  /  English I (Writing)
    ? English II (Reading) /  English II (Writing)
    ? English III (Reading) /  English III(Writing)
For each of two 16-week semesters, you will be required to teach eight 90-minute classes of the English I, II, and III courses per week. English I, II, and III are required courses and consist of two modules: Reading and Writing. Each module meets once a week for 90-minutes. One instructor teaches both modules to groups of 25-30 students. English I and III are offered in the Spring Semester (April-July) and English II is offered in the Fall Semester (October-January). In addition, you may be required to teach other courses offered in the English Language Program such as listening and speaking, and TOEIC Preparation. (2)Other duties may include:
  a. developing course materials
  b. providing student support during office hours
  c. creating/managing online course resources
    (Moodle, Xreading.com, EnglishCentral.com, Quizlet, etc.)
  d. carrying out other duties related to university administration

5. Terms of employment:
  (1) One-year contract (non-tenure track)
    Term of contract is from April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024.
    Following an annual review, contract may be renewed for 4 additional years for a possible
    maximum term of employment of 5 years.   (2) Weekly Hours:
    Required to be on campus Monday - Friday for a total of 35 hours per week.
  (3) Salary:
    ?344,200 per month*
    *bonus, overtime allowance, and severance pay are not provided.
  (4)Holidays:
    In addition to national holidays and New Year's holiday (December 29 - January 3), you may
    take 20 days annual paid vacation and an annual summer holiday of 5 days.
  (5) Place of Work: Miyazaki Municipal University


6. Qualifications:
  (1) Any nationality (native-English-speaker level is highly preferred)
  (2) Holders of a post-graduate degree (MA / PhD.) in English as a Second Language, Second
    Language Acquisition, Applied Linguistics, etc are preferred.*
    *Although holders of a post-graduate degree are preferred, any candidate with significant
    experience teaching English will also be considered.
  (3) Experience teaching English as a Foreign/Second Language courses at the university level is
    preferred.
  Note:
    A high level of Japanese speaking ability is preferred for this position. If Japanese is not the
    native language of the applicant, the applicant should have the ability to use Japanese to
    process administrative paperwork and provided support to students in Japanese.

  (6) copy of current passport and Japanese resident card (if applicable)
  (7) any available proof of Japanese language proficiency (such as research publications in
    Japanese, results of a Japanese language proficiency test, or self-written description of current
    language ability)
  Note:
  (1) Application documents can be completed in either Japanese or English.
  (2) Information provided on application documents will not be used for any purpose other than
    employment screening and will be kept in the strictest confidence.

11. Selection process:
   Upon completion of an initial screening, all applicants will be notified. Successful applicants will
   then have an interview on the campus of MMU on February 4, 2023 (tentative date). Following the
   interview, applicants will give a demonstration lesson. Details of interview and demonstration
   lesson will be provided later.
   *Travel expenses to and from interviews must be borne by the applicant.


12. Final notification:
   The successful applicant will be notified in writing after selection procedures are completed.
